READ THIS BEFORE YOU ETCH
From blank glass to permanent masterpiece.
Slow down, protect your workspace, and follow every safety instruction on your etching solution.
- 01
Prepare your workspace
Choose a well-ventilated area and protect the surface beneath your project. Gather your glass, vinyl stencil, etching cream, gloves, brush, timer, soap, and water.
- 02
Clean the glass
Wash and dry the glass thoroughly. Remove fingerprints, dust, and residue so the stencil can seal cleanly.
- 03
Apply the stencil
Position the vinyl stencil, press it firmly onto the glass, and smooth every edge around the design to prevent cream from sneaking underneath.
- 04
Protect yourself
Put on the included gloves before opening the etching solution. Keep the cream away from skin, eyes, children, pets, and unprotected surfaces.
- 05
Apply the etching cream
Use the brush to cover every open area of the stencil with a thick, even layer. Do not brush beyond the protected stencil area.
- 06
Set a five-minute timer
Let the cream sit for five minutes, or follow the timing printed on your etching solution if it differs.
- 07
Rinse completely
With gloves still on, rinse the cream away under running water until none remains. Keep the stencil in place while rinsing.
- 08
Remove the stencil
Peel away the vinyl and transfer material, then wash the glass with soap and water.
- 09
Inspect your design
Dry the glass and admire the finished etch. The design may look subtle while wet and become clearer once dry.
- 10
Clean up safely
Dispose of used materials according to the etching cream label, clean your tools and work surface, and wash your hands.
